Water Flow, what is too much?

How much water flow is too much? I have been looking around to see what type of coral I'd like to place in my tank, and I see each type requires a specific ammount of wayer flow. How do you tell if it's getting enough. I hear it's not good to put direct flow on the coral, is this also true?

speciman require different flows,lo med and high, as well as light source you dont want your stuff blowin around the tank, In my practice the corals if softies, should delicatley move and sway, but you will just have to notice how these little guys are doin, if in doubt ask for a specific coral.

yep, it really depends on the corals you want. Most softies and lower light corals like a very gentle sway of water current. If you have sand that will limit you too, you don't want so much flow that you have a constant sandstorm in your tank. If you have a bare-bottomed SPS only tank though, you can go with as much flow as isn't knocking things over.
