Water change procedures...
How long does everyone let their water sit before a WC? I've heard a week (marinedepot.com), but before I'd only let it sit a few hours and heat up before testing SG.
I just want to see what everyone else does and if someone has found good results out of a certain way.
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Lord no, never allow your water after making it ready with the salt to sit around for so long for so long. For if I start making ready the 30-32 gals in the morning, I be making my water change on my eel tanks around 6-7 PM that same day for as well, it might make a difference on the type of salt one use for I use the Oceanic salt and it clears up fast, faster then that coral life salt.

i tend to make it up in the morning and do the WC in the evening. mainly just to make sure the salinity and temp are stable.

I use filtered water direct from the atlantic. I have been doing this for years and have never had a problem. Check the PH, SG, and let it rip. oh ya temp too.

I often let my water sit for a week...and I don't think I've ever experienced any adverse effects.

Kelli, I also keep water made up all the time. I lost 6 Gallons to the floor this morning. If it wasn't made, what would I do?
I fill the 44 Brute, mix it up to spec, and keep a Mag 18 and 2 heaters running in it. It lasts 2 to 3 weeks.

I let the water mix and sit for at least a day before I put it in the tank, this is in two fifty-gallon buckets with powerheads.

I usually mix my SW on THur or Friday morning. Then do my WC SOMETIME during the weekend...so anywhere from 24-72 hours.
As long as there's water movement, and good temp...it can sit for weeks.
also, adding it right away isn't good. While the temp and Salinity might be alright, the pH usually needs some time to stablize.

Wow, sounds like everyone does it alittle different. Doesn't sound like anyone has any issues with the different ways. I think I'll stick with my mix in morning and WC at night, that looks like the most used procedure. Thanks for all the replies!!!
