I have a stupid question.... do you want the marine betta or the freshwater betta?

Freshwater betta's are actually not so easy to breed. Despite what you've read, it's difficult to breed and raise the young.

If you want to practice breeding for fun, I suggest trying other livebearers. Something like mollies.. swordtails... platties. If you have a 20 gallon or so... I'd even suggest a pair of convict cichlids. They're a very interesting fish to watch. They will care for the young after they're born... unlike others which are more likely to eat the young.

Good luck!

hahah. yeah, once you follow all the instructions, it costs like $1-$2 per fish given that you were able to yield a batch of ~20 as a beginner. and choosing mates is not always so simple either. i used to breed them, but for money... it's just not worth it.
