Want to laugh???

Okay, long story short, on my first water change ever (~2 weeks ago) I was using 1/2" tubing and a 1/2 gallon container to syphon out for my first water change. I sucked on the end of the tube and nothing came out, so I sucked harder and I swear to god the water must have been right there becuase I literally inhaled somewhere between 2-5 FULL mouthfulls of SW. Something in my brain triggered and said "better to swallow it then let it hit the floor!" About 1 cup of water probably made it into the container, the hose was just flailing about during the whole thing, it was quite the sight.

So what made me decide to tell this story was the fact that just now I was doing another water change, and in the wet/dry area of the filter there was a whole bunch of crap floating, so I decided to syphon it out. Still using the 1/2" tubing to syphon (believe me, I've learned my lesson with tubing this size) I managed to inhale another full mouthful of probably the grossest area of my tank. I feel soooooo sick right now it is not even funny (well, I suppose it is actually pretty funny). So at my expense enjoy at least smile, and maybe a good laugh. :P

Here is a tip...GRIN

Stick the WHOLE tube in the tank...Put your thumb on the end your taking out of the water and keep the other end under water.....guess what you get.....A siphone

Unless you just like the taste...it will keep your lips off of the hose (DOH).

Don't worry...I figured this out after ALMOST getting a mouthfull....

good tip on filling the tube with water, I'm curious to see if it works! Thanks for the support all, I was pretty sure I wasn't alone on this one. Thankfully it is just a Nano Cube, so no skimmer to syphon from. :P

I have never sucked on a tube to start a siphon for just that reason. I use a tube and fold it in half. I fill both ends with a turkey baster and then plug up the ends with my fingers. Then put one end in a bucket the other in the tank and release. Perfecto not poopy mouth.
