Question

Vortechs and Acrylic tanks ??

Anyone using the Vortech pumps on an acrylic tank?
http://www.aquacave.com/mp-40w-vorte...rine-1120.html

I don't see where it says not to but then I don't see it saying safe for acrylic either

Kelli, although they did cause a problem on a few tanks, there are many people running them with no issues on acrylic. I think to some degree there is a risk, but looking at the product as a whole not a large one. I bit the bullet last night and finally ordered a set for my tank, although glass, I'm confident despite a few other issues they are having. Also plan on spending about $20-30 every 12-24 months for a few nickel and dime parts that seem to need replacing.

Good to know Hop - I'm a bit leary since I don't have a back up tank and stand

I read a few hundred posts in the vendor forum on RC last night before dropping the cash. Not one mention of additional acrylic issues and the one that I know of was one of the first production pumps. There seem to be a few issues with the power supply and drivers, but it looks like it is less than 1% of the units sold. As with most things, you hear more from the upset buyer than the satisfied one So I felt confident and threw my cash down. PLus I hate freaking out everytime the power goes out

I don't think I can use them it said you need 3" of clearance on the outside and I don't have it

Ouch! Is that because of the heat of the motor? Or does something else effect the acrilic?

I was thinking about these when I got my Tunze's,.. but after feeling how hot those outside motors get I got worried about the glass.

I've seen that happen a couple times on some threads, for some reason I'm thining Whiskey might have had this happen to him. I think if you monitor it it should be fine but there is a definate risk.

But it was one pump... Been discussing it with him for over a year and it is always the same pump, in the same location. They have sent replacements and it has the same issue. That is the one case I have heard of involving crazing though...
