Viper clamp on lamp vs nanotuners DIY upgrade?
I am just curious if I EVER were going to upgrade the lights in my 12 gal aquapod, what are the advantages and disadvantages to these two options. I am concerned with the tank getting overheated in the summer for sure.

George did it I don't think it was that hard but the hood never fit right after I added the additional PC's

you can buy "already modded" hoods from nanotuners, if modding is a worry for ya. either way, my tank runs pretty hot, i think adding any upgrade to lights, your gonna be looking at chillers. the good thing is, some of those probe chillers are actually pretty affordable.

as for the viper,....i have 1 K2-Viper 150w 10k light on my 30g long & it gets HOT, i only use it as addition to full natural day light, my normal tank temperature is 76-82, but its winter so i cant say its going to stay that cool in the summer..bad thing is theres no built in cooling fan...wich dont sound important, but then you find out that theres MH lights that DO NOT PRODUCE HEAT soo..i dont think its a good solution for a 12g tank..there is a clip on lamp that does have a fan, but its more expensive & its not a Viper...& as for the viper holding arm, ive never had problems with that..just a bit hard to get it set up...but it will burn you, its hotter than a oven top

I have a K2 Viper on my 30 gallon and have used 10k and 14k bulbs in it and have not noticed any adverse heating effects. My temp stays constant (around 77.7) at all times - day or night, therefore if you do not have a glass lid on your tank I don't think overheating will be an issue. You can always raise the viper up a little bit if you're noticing trouble keeping a constant temp.
