Valentini Puffer

Ok...someone in my local reef club has a Valentini Puffer that has been nipping on some SPS Corals. No signs of eating snails or Softy Corals. He is selling him and I was wondering...

He wants $5 for him...should I give it a try? All I have are some shrooms, some zoa, a colt, some GSP as far as corals go. I do have lots of snails and a cleaner shrimp and a pistol shrimp....

What do you think?!?

No those things are not reef safe at all. Puffers belong in fish only tanks.

Here is what the guys said about him...

i have not seen him eat anything but brine, mysis, flakes, and the little feather duster/tube worm things that were growing all over my live rock....hasnt gone after my snails or hermit crabs...he hasnt even looked twice at my GSP...only my SPS....he was good at just picking at my live rock...so i dont think that should be a problem...i have a what i call a snail grave yard...lol...it is a whole bunch of snail shells and he hasnt touched any of them...he is full of charator...swims up to the glass when you come in the room...very nice fish other than eating my SPS...

I mean if you have corals in your tank that are worth more than 5 dollars and you want to take the risk, it might work out.

Thanks all...well...I told the guy I would give it a try ...I'll see what happens...

I couldn't help it...he is so cute (the fish, not the guy )

Anyway...if he doesn't work out...I have a friend with a FO tank that is happy to have him. I don't have a lot for him to pick at in my tank, so if he does, I'll know it fast. I guess I have to keep him well fed to avoid any issues.

Wish me luck...even if I am a dummy! I have so few corals, I am considering going FO anyway because I love these type of fish...we'll see.
