UV Sterilzer

I am looking to get a UV sterlizer for my tank. I am wondering what kind or even what size I need? I have a 150 gallon 6 foot long tank if that helps. Thanks,

I don't know that either. Do you mean the same flow as I have from my overflow? I'm dumb about this and don't mind saying so. I'm open to any suggestions or comments.

most importantly what are you wanting to use it for . a clarifier , or control of fish disease . each application uses different flow . to use as a clarifier you could probably skimp by with a 25 watt unit , for disease control figure on a 40 watt .

I want to get it for disease control. I have gotten a couple fish a few months apart. I got a yellow long nose butterfly fish that lived about 24 days, Then I got a sail fin fish and it lasted about 23 days. I am really gun shy about getting more larger fish, so I got a dragon goby and it lasted a month. I haven't gotten anything else. I know the sail fin had ick. I still have the coral beauty, and the clown, and the yellow watchman goby, and the chromis. It just seemed to happen to the new fish. I got them from the same place so I don't think that was the problem. I just don't know.

i would try a different l.f.s. . seems to me your describing poorly shipped fish . he may have gotten then from a different supplier than your first ones . if they are coming in in bad shape than a u.v. will not help you . just try a new fish from somewhere different before you spend your money on a u.v. . mind you a u.v. is not a bad thing to have !

ditto on what Gary is saying. i am thinking you have poorly caught/acclimated fish. this hobby is hard enough, but to think that most of the fish deaths we have are because of circumstances beyond the aquarist controll.

I know that the yellow long nose butterfly had ick. He was covered with it, the sail fin was always a weird fish. I was told that with something about larger fish I needed a UV Sterilizer.

before getting a UV read the articles on this page. yes it is from a UV supplier, but what is being said is science and not marketing speak which is what you are reading in the price range UV's you are looking at.

in order to get a UV that is even remotely possible of doing what you want it to do you will be spending over $400. on the UV alone.
