Question

using PVC primer/cement on existing tank?...

i am gonna re-do my plumbing from flexible hose to flex PVC...

i will turn off my return pump and spend a couple hours on the project...(should take 2-3 hours)...replacing all BHs and plumbing to a new refugium and the sump...

is this enough time for all the PVC primer and cement to cure?...i know that cure times on most cements is a few minutes to setup then a couple hours to cure, but not totally cured for 24 hours or so...??

obviously the tank can only go so long without good circulation (i can add a couple PHs to the tank to keep things movin')...

thanks

brad

I've done PVC re-work several times before, last nite on my 400 in fact. I gave it a 1/2 hour. I have always made sure to flush the plumbing first to get rid of any residue. Now both my tanks (180 and 400) have a substantial water volume so I would venture to say there might have been toxicity, but it was diluted. Try using unions so you could "bench assemble" the plumbing and then install when it is cured overnite. My .02. SD

Brad,

We just cut and pre-fit as much of the PCV as we can ahead of time, and then there's only a couple of fittings that have to be glued while the systems down. Can you do that? Then we give it about 30 min to an hour to set and plug 'er in.
