using overflow box as a fuge??

How many people just let there overflow box go?

Mine is particularly overgrown with tons of thick green algae, also seems like asterina stars are growing well there. Its kinda turned into a little fuge. Is this a good thing? I hope so, because there isn't much I can do due to the design of my overflow, it has two walls (see below) that are supposed to let water come up from mid and lower tank, but between the two walls the flow is so slow that algae has filled it. My SPS have pretty good colors and the tank itself seems algae-free. Anything to worry about?

Here is the design of my overflow so you can see why the two walls create a slow flow area, that would be nearly impossible to clean:

thats how most overflows are, i wouldnt worry too much, if you want to pull some algae out to improve flow, thats fine, but i dont think scrubbing it is essential, thats all i do to mine anyway, clean the teeth and pull what i can out of the space between.

agreed. Just make sure that the algae doesn't end up clogging your drain .... other than that ... great place for it. I like putting coral rubble into my overflow boxes .... great place for pods of all sorts to grow & live ... then thn make their voyage into the tank.... they also get food leftovers
