Using ABS for an overflow

I had read some threads on here regarding using ABS plastic for an overflow. Now some people in my local reef club are telling me it'll eventually sag and fail... not good.

Will ABS permanently seal to glass for use as an overflow? If not I'm out $100 bucks... Already had ABS cut to spec for a 55g and 125g overflow.

:EDIT: Found this sealant. Says it can be used on ABS and glass, it's non-sagging and can be used under water. Claims to have a better seal than silicone as well... Thoughts?

I designed my overflow out of acrylic with five sides - only the top is open. I cut two holes in the bottom that line up with my holes in the bottom of the tank. I applied standard silicon between the two and tightened the bulkheads down. When the silicon dried, it had made me a gasket.

Silicon does not adhere well to plastics, this stuff may, but I personally would not trust it. Maybe the Bulkhead and silicon idea will work for you.

good luck!

why wouldn't you trust that, afraid it might leach something into the water?

What 2 part epoxy's would be good to hold everything together here?

Anyone? Really need to find something as I plan on getting this put together this evening and installing through the weekend...

ABS is tough as nails....I highly doubt that it would sag or fail. Not sure about sealing it to glass though.

yeah i wasn't too worried about that... Just getting it to stay on my glass... Maybe I can fashion some type of clamp to hold it in place as well as using a chemical sealant.

A clamp...you mean like a bulkhead? Do you have a sketch or something of what you are trying to do?

That would help alot.
