Ups: "package Damaged"
Well I guess my first online coral order might end up being a bust (literaly) I ordered, a bunch of exotic zoas, brain, and some purple star polyps. I just tracked w/UPS. they says package was damaged, the did say it was going to be delivered, when they did not know. I hope none of the bags popped and that it gets here today! I did insure it, not that that really matters I hope they are all ok!
Any one else have this happen?

the seller seems like a nice guy. just starting a LFS in Pa. Talked to hiem for 1/2 hour last night. he throw in a bunch of free zoas and said if anything is DOA he would reship for free with a 2 for 1 replacement. If 3 corals die he will ship 6 all at his cost! Well see how it all turns out. If he makes it right I will defanitaly promote him on TRT. BTW his prices are awesome. They are working on their website right now.

Also sounds like the seller knows how UPS insurance works. Not to discredit him (sounds like he is taking the extra steps to make you happy) but he will be able to get most of the money back, and if he complains enough, they will ship it again for free.
Since you know it is coming in bad, have someone with a camera handy. Take pictures before you sign for it. Then as you are unpacking it. This will help your cause (DOA's) and it will help his case for the insurance claim.
Hope it goes well for you.

Make sure to still try and acclimate the corals, unless it is a few days. Many of the ones you have are rather hardy and may make it.
I had some SPS frags shiped via USPS and they "Deystroyed" the box. The corals were out of water for at least three hours, that i was aware of, but no telling when they broke the box & bags they were in, so may have been longer.
I acclimated and added to my tank and they survived. And these were SPS!

the brain is the only coral i would be really worried about. the zoas and the polyps can handle being out of the water for many, many hours. as long as they are moist they can be out of the water for days.

I've called UPS and met the truck somewhere in town in this situation in the past. I just don't trust them to get it to me, especially in the Houston heat. Now, though, I always just pick up at the local facility. You may consider calling them if you don't hear anything soon...

so here is the list of what you should have ready... - Camera, get shots of the box from all sides
- SW, have some that is warmer and some that is cold (in the fridge) that way to can do fast temperature acclimation so you can mix the warm and cold and match the temp right away
- make sure you write damaged in BIG letters on the UPS forms or make sure they write it up as damaged. if you can get the name of the delivery guy and have him sign something for you showing it is damaged.
- get the pictures to the seller right away.
good luck!
