upgrading

Hi all i needed some oppinons i am going to be upgrading from a 26 euro tank to something larger.

I have a lfs that is trying to talk me into her products over another stores. The LFS is claiming that perfecto tanks are not good tanks what so-ever and the only tank that is a good tank is all-glass.
Is there any truth to this?

Also i am tossing up between a 46 bow front, a65, 55 or a 50 breeder. Is there any substanitial diffrence between any of these that i should be aware of. Such as,my LFS has claimed that you should not use a 55 gallon b/c it is to narrow. and i should not use a 65 b/c it is to tall.

thanks

It can be rebuilt.

that is fairly good advice about the size of the tank. 55's are to narrow, a pain to aquascape. ditto on the 65.

as for the tank manufacturers about the only difference would be the thickness of the glass. you should also look into whether or not the bottom is tempered or not. tempered glass can not be drilled. so later on if you want to drill the tank, you can not do it if it was tempered. another concern could be the amount of braces across the top of the tank. the less the better. allows a greater variety of lighting systems to be used.

I have an AGA and I am verry happy with it. That being said I have also had perfecto tanks and have not had any problems with them either. I would buy AGA over perfecto just because they seem to be more geared towards SW and reef tanks than perfecto. Also they are easyer for me to get than perfecto.

so basiclly perfecto are ok, but they are better for fresh water and with all the live rock it is better to have an aga.

I know that the perfecto had tempered glass can anyone tell me if they know the aga has tempered?

You can get an AGA reef ready which is already drilled with overflow boxes installed.

My Oceanic has a huge chunk of glass for a center brace. It makes lighting a challenge but I've always had Oceanic tanks and never had any bad luck yet (knocking on wood). On the "less is better" I'm not so sure, maybe better trying to get your lighting right but long-term tank integrity ???????? JMO
