upgrade plans and current status!
While the computer was down I got into plans for the upgrade. As alot of you know, I had the stand built over sized for my 55 so I could drop a bigger tank on it. The bigger tank will be 63x30x22 tall. It waill have a black back and a center overflow. It will be drilled for 4 CLSs including a megaflow spraybar. It will be a starboard reef with about 165g capacity. The CLSs will be set up with a wavemaker or scwd to alternate flow and will all be designed around the the aquascaping to use the flow in the most efficiant manner. Total flow will be in the 4900gph area. Lights are still to be decided but MH are a definate along with VHO. The sump will be a DIY acrylic set up measuring 26x26x10 with 7 inches of water depth. I will also DIY a auto top off container to sit on the shelf above. I plan on a calcium reactor, substantial UV and a chiller. This is going to take about two years to complete but I have already aquired a good amount of parts that will carry over. The 55 will become a FOWLR and aggresive fish.
Currently things are great although I have to work on my alk situation before I add anything. Ive been very slow with this whole project but its helping me to learn each aspect as I go without messing up other areas on the way. Right now it is a FOWLR. The new EuroReef is the Bomb! I have to get a new RO/DI as the one I had is old and not working at all now. So I have some brown stuff on the PVC and back glass and I also have a piece of rock with some hair algae(?). The coraline still hasnt done what Ive seen in other tanks. The fish are happy and the crab and cleaner shrimp have both molted in the tank. Its going, although I think sometimes Im a little too cautious and picky about thwe whole thing. Havent seen a hint of anything bad in the water at all. When the coraline takes off Ill feel better about the condition of the tank.
Heres some new pics!

Looks awsome, and Rome was not built in a day. Keep going at your current rate, everything looks great! How about a full tank shot.

Heres some full shots of the thing! Tim, I have no idea where Im going to set up the 55 when it moves.
And yes my Wife knows about this master plan. We did, however, have a serious discusion about money and me not putting us in the poor house.
I better not put us in the poor house.
The tank has been great and most of the stuff has been dependable, with a few exceptions. With the size of foot print the new tank will have ,63x30, Ill have a ton of room to do some cool rock work!
Robert

What a beautiful setup, Robert! The stand looks like more like a finely-crafted dining room hutch! Well thought out plan and looks ready for that new tank.

Motor, motor, motor. Your tank spanks mines little hiney all red and raw. Very neat, very clean. I understand the poorhouse bit. I had to bust out the mega knee pads and the chapstick and do some serious butt kissin to get the ok to finally start in on the FW 55 but that'll have to wait until our tax returns to start. That's my favorite part of havin a tank. The planing and setup. Sick, Aint I?

I like the planning and the building! And the rebuilding! I do like the practice of trying to master the water also.
Tab, I buy Chapstick by the barrell and have installed two inch over my entire floor. That way when thr desire to spend money on the tank arises, I can kiss butt when ever and where ever! Seems to work well.
Dick, the stand was built by my Father in Law, he is a very skilled wood worker.
Thanks everyone, It will never be finished, my Wife has recently accepted this as truth. Now Im off to work to think about tank stuff!!
Robert
