More pics, ewuipment and all!
I agree, I would love to see the whole setup, equiptment and all. How do you prevent the lines going to/from the chiller and the lines going to/from the sump, and the skimmer itself from sweating?

Thanks,
Whiskey

Skimmer is in-sump....so no sweating.....and the plumbing lines don't sweat....i guess they are thick enough to prevent sweating. They are really just slightly cool to the touch. The cold tanks (there are actually two...one small...one medium) are with all the equipment for my main warm water reef. I set these up to see the potential for cold tanks...they're really not show tanks so to speak. I removed my warm water refugium a few years ago and replaced the space with the cold tank. When I replaced my old skimmers with a single deltec, I gave that space to a second, albeit smaller, cold tank. Both are serviced through a common sump.

It seem You have taken the Hobbie to another level. It would be nice if it became a little more main steam. That would allow more people to start them. I am really amazed with it. But I bet it would be hard to buy live stock .

Livestock is the real problem......past that, cold water tanks are easier and much more forgiving to run than reefs. It's sort of a chicken/egg thing....there are no livestock suppliers because there are no cold water reefers ....and there are no cold water reefers because there's no livestock available. That said...there is an outfit that will sell to the public in Tasmania.....and the West coasters can alway collect their own.....and there are a few things that come through warm water suppliers that are really cold water...like, catalina gobies, red foot snails, wartah anemones, and few fish from Australia.

That is a pretty amazing tank. What kind of camera took the pics? Are you using NSW or mix?

The lastest National Geographic Aug '06 has an article on the Queen Charlotte Strait off of Canada's Vancouver Island with a really nice shot of the bottom with kelp and anemones.

I use a Cannon 10D and I mix my own salt just as we all do with our warm water tanks. Here are a few more pics. Remember...this is an experimental setup to test the viability of keeping a cold water reef....no resources were allocated to aesthetics. I set up these two tanks in some spare space within my warm water tank's equipment room. If they continue to do well...I'll set up a real tank.

Did you say "real" tank? Please let us know when you intend to do that because that is the best looking halfheated attempt I've ever seen!
