Update on tank overhaul

Well, I'm not sure what smilie to use on this thread I feel good about some of it, and frustrated too. I realize now that I didn't have enough SW made up ahead of time.

In any case, here's the current status:

All pieces of LR are out of the tank. Most of the ones with majano and aiptasia have been treated with pickling lime. A few pices that are pretty big and covered with the nasties are gonna be banished for a while. Corals are sequestered in a their own safey tub and other pieces of LR are in their own too.

I took out most of the cc bed (hard to see after I stirred things up, ya know), and added about 25lbs of Southdown. One
handful at a time. Now I've got the storm of the century in my tank until it settles! I'm leary about adding more. My wrasse (Mr. Spot is in hiding) and the hermit is wandering around. I haven't heard the snap of the other critter (mantis or pistol) for a while...he may be in some hidey hole in piece of LR. Last night I skimmed off a great deal of foam from the water surface.

Sigh...I was so tired when I finally had something to eat last night and I felt like a failure. But as ALice rightly said, "well ya know, cath, it took a long time for your tank to get to this point, it's not gonna be Tank Beautiful overnight!" That made me feel much better to hear that! All in all, I guess it's going along as expected.

...pictures later, though. Much later

In any case...thanks for all your support. So many folks have been a tremendous support here!

Good work, Cath!

Redoing a tank is not fun, and it's disheartening to say the least to do all that hard work and the tank looks like WW3! Come this time next week though, you'll see the difference and be glad you did it.

Hey Cath its a big job no matter what the size of the tank. U can also use a mechcanical filter to help clear it up ( or a sock filter). good luck on the big project and good luck.

Mike
