Is it part of a molt from a shrimp? Do you have any shrimp in the tank?

no, havent had a shrimp in there for a long time. but since my stock list is kinda short ill put it up, just damsels, clownfish, a banded goby, a bta but it son the other side of the tank, a sand sifting starfish, a red brittle star, 2 emerald crabs, and a peice of coral that hasnt seen to moved or grown in months (but at least not died) and a few different varieties of snail and hermit crab

well, theres also some strands of soemthign that seem to be of the same material around it, and it looks more jelly like in person than the sponges i'm familier with. i checked my temp and it is at 81 degrees which is hotter than i usually keep it. but all of my snails and hermit crabs seem to be doing fine

I've seen the same thing in my tank as well. I think it's a slime ball coming from a tube worm or feather duster. In any case, it never seems to hurt anything.
