Unidentified Hitchhiker
Good morning all,
A buudy just got a nice piece of fiji live rock and there is what appears to be a very small, what I thought was a button polyp. It is brown in color with florescent green tips, under lighting. The strange thing is that this critter is mobile. It roams on the piece of rock and I didn't think that polyps roamed. It is too small to get a picture of but thought you guys may have some ideas as to what it might be. Do polyps move?
Steve

Sounds like an anemone, there is a good chance that it is apastasia (spelling) which are not desired in your tank. It would help if you could post a pic of it.

the tentacles are not nearly that long. They are short like a button polyps. I will try and get some kind of pic if I can.

note i said "LIKE". the tentacles can be way shorter....or fatter or the body can be way shorter or fatter......it can be a myriad of different colors depending on what its eating and lights, its all the same thing if this description describes it along with that picture being "like"

Sounds a lot like mojano, or a variation of. See if this is what it looks like. http://cgi.ebay.com/LIVE-CORAL-limit...ayphotohosting
If this is it, keep an eye on it. They can spread really fast, and contrary to what this seller says, I've read on here that this type and the brown type CAN become a problem and sting corals. If they spread, they can take over the tank. Kinda pretty though. I have one in my tank with no problems so far, but if it even shows signs of spreading, its history. HTH

Wanna know something funny....or NOT so funny.....that picture i posted is from marine depot........they sell them as Stick polyps!! LOL
Infest your tank with a aiptasia colony for only $24.00 + shipping!!!!
To be sure, i have always been pleased with marine depots quality and service. I just havent ordered any aiptasia from them.
oh....svine......still hard to tell from that pic but im still thinking it is either an majano or aiptasia. result is the same. http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_...mes.asp?CartId=
If you have 100% confidenece that you can pick it oput leanly....I.E. ZERO gut or slime remnants...its ok to do so. Otherwise use the above product. If you do smash it or leave remnants it wil spread.
Before i knew better i used to feed mine in a predatorial tank thinking how cool it was to watch my new free pets grow!!!!!!! and they DO sting the heck out of your other corals.

too funny............infest your tank with pests for $24 and on top of that don't forget shipping!
So you are thinking Aiptasia or mojano? I'm inclined to agree and better to eliminate now.
Thanks

Hard to tell from the pic, but id bet its one or the other. I'd at least keep a close eye on it and see what happens. My mojano never moves, never has moved since it showed up, but they can if so inclined.
