Unidentified filtration system?

I need the help of some of our local experts!!
I bought a bunch of aquairium stuff at a garage sale
a couple of years ago. It was some filtration stuff
and lighting fixtures. I used the lighting fixtures and
put the filtration systems in the attic. Since moving my
tanks to the family room I've decided to take a more
serious look at my "junk pile", and here is what I've
found.

I have what looks like a biological filter system.
The name brand is "La Mer". It is a plexiglass
box that measures 18 in. T x 20 in. L x10 in.W.
It is a divided box with one side about 15 in. and
a plastic wall with 5 inches on the other side.
It has a removeable lid with a water fitting on the
top. Then it has about 15 inches of "bio-tape" in
the large portion of the box.
It looks like the water flows through the bio
tape to the bottom of the unit.
Then at the bottom of the bio tape it drains
in the smaller side of the tank with a
water fitting at the bottom.

Does anyone know about this unit? Or a web site
I could go to, to get more info on it?
Thanks for your help.

Hey FL it sounds like a basic wet/dry flitratation system. You could remove the bio tape medai and use it as a reef sump

Doug1,
Thanks, I have a 20gal.long sump tank,
I'd like to use the bio-media tape, along
with my skimmer. Is it possible?
Will it work? Will it help?
Thanks.

It does the same thing as bio balls, with the attending problems they can create
That sump would be OK as is on a FO tank but the media isnt needed for a reef
