unexplained fish deaths

I think i have i problem.... can ya help me?

I have found 2 of my fishes dead and gutted in the tank today
My Royal Gramma & my seaweed Blenny (

they both had ick awhile ago (6 maybe 8 weeks ago)
they both look like someone enjoyed a nice filet - guessing post mortum, but it's unclear...

tank 55 gallon up since June of 06

water parameters
amm - 0
nitrite-0
nitrate 20-40
using api test switching to salfert once these are gone
Calcium 300
(getting ready to start dosing cacl2)
dhk - 8
(doising baking soda)
ph 8.3
temp 82
sg 1.025

In the last few weeks I have added a bunch of corals, zoas, candy cane, a few leathers and an open brain

I have like 10 redlegged hermits they are pretty small
a red mirthax - he is my number one suspect on the filing body is about the size of a 50cent piece
a green mirathax - body the size of a penny

tonga nassirus 10
cerith -10ish
astrea -6

blue tuxedo urchin

I usually do a weekly 15 gallon water change on saturdays,
i have gone 2 weeks w/o a h20 change

but i can't figure out why they died...

Not sure. That sucks, sorry for your loss.

Regardless if what gutted them killed them or not...i wonder what in yor tank could hae done that so quickly??

I will say you want to get rid of those tonga nassarius snails though. They are evil.

When i didnt know any better I bought some too because they were so beautiful. They are murderers in a big way and will kill all of your other snails.

To be sure..are we talking about these ones??

http://www.marinedepotlive.com/tonga...d-animals.html

Mine actually had a beautiful grey/white and black shell, but the flesh of the foot was the same. They arent making friends with that snout of theirs. Marine depots description of their habits is innacurate

I don't mean to be slow, but how is this possible with the additions of such small frags? I have not added any lr or sand since June when I set it up

I'm sorry to hear about your fish Amy

I've got some of those snails you linked,.. I don't call them what you do though. They are opertunistic,.. but I've never seen mine feed on anything that's not already dead.

What are you feeding? How much do you feed? Did these fish eat well?

Whiskey

Whiskey

THe fish were eating well - nobody was skinny in this tank - at least nobody was concave and all the fish are growing

How much: I feed everyother day

what: a bout a month ago i made some blender mush
shrimp
squid rings
crab meat
some kind of ocean fish - a filet of it not very big - whatever was on sale that day

nori
garlic juice
tossed in some of the pellet food I already had ( formula 1 and 2)
and rodi water

i feed them a chunk or the blender mush and a cube of mysis ( if I remember the mysis cube)

You would be amazed at how small things can be and grow over time in your tank without you knowing.
