the best way is to cure LR at someone elses house.. if it is uncured when you got it, it can really smell bad...

if you have a garage do it there.in a rubbermaid tub, use a Power head and heater and make sure you have extra water made up to change it out...you can have lights on it or not ..

Put some drains on the bottem of the tubaware for easy drainage. Change the water 1-2 times a week. Put a heater and a powerhead for movemnet and stick in a spare room or better yet a garage. When the water tests to 0 its cured.

Use a skimmer too, if you have an extra one. Run the skimmer as a wet skimmate and keep an eye on both SW levels and salinity. Water changes, carbon, temp and circulation, water changes, lighting, water changes, heavy skimming, water changes... Oh yeah, dont forget to buy some extra ASW mix and a big barrel to make some extra ASW, you'll need it to make the WATER CHANGES... (so you may need an extra heater and a powerhead or other submersible for mixing the ASW)

I personally always buy rock uncured and do it myself, as there is a ton of stuff that will not make it through the curing process that MOST folks do when curing rock that add much diversity to the tank (and add some pretty kewl critters to your system). Treating the rock as if it were some live photoautotroph will give you many surprises that normally wouldnt show up in your system.

It IS worth the trouble, as many of the creatures that will survive are not ones that you could purchase in a LFS.
