Question

Two semi-related questions

Hi everyone,

My first question is this, How long do test kits stay good for? I've got some test kits that are about a year old (ammonia, trite, trate, ph). Are they still good? I hope so...

Second question, My ammonia seems to have peaked (assuming my test kit is working) at about 1. It appears to be falling. Nitrite is at about 0.25, and Nitrate is about 5. This doesn't seem to have been too bad of a cycle (I don't want to say that too soon, especially on Friday the 13th ), and I noticed I have a few hard corals. Can they survive these levels of Ammonia and Nitrites? Thanks.

Drew

What kind of test kits, Drew? Most of them have a "use by" date. You might have only had them a year, but how long did they sit on a shelf somewhere waiting for you to buy them? Can you test at the LFS for comparison? If not, I'd tend to be suspicious about the readings.

As far as the corals surviving in your cycling tank, do some small water changes to try to keep the levels in the survivablity range.

Having fun with the new tank, Drew? Me too! I switched the corals over to the 125, but still have the fish and other critters in the holding tank. Well, all the fish except Bob, the bi-color blenny, who hitched a ride in a rock with a coral on it. Guess he wanted to call dibs in the new house
