Twister inside a skimmer?

What would happen if one was able to create a small twister inside the skimmer?

thats what happens to the seaclones if you dont clean them out they form twisters, and just about no bubbles.

Seem to remember the Kent Marine Nautilus brand of skimmers had two outlets in the bottom of the skimmer set at angles to do just that, seems their R/D folks had to increase the height of the skimmer a good bit to get it to work well, but I cant speak from experience: dunno if they improved the skimming or not.

We ran skimmers like this back in the day. The idea was that the mini typhoon inside the skimmer would increase contact time between the bubbles and water. What really happens in these skimmers is that a centrifuge is created. The larger particles are pushed out to the inside walls of the skimmer where there are no bubbles. The only thing these skimmers can really remove are dissolved molecules or very fine particles that are lighter than water. Everything else just builds up on the walls of the skimmer or just flows right through.

My Knop HOB skimmer does just that, and seems to work fine (at least by looking at the skimate it produces)
