Tunze Protein Skimmers and Turbelle pumps

Just wondering if anyone has experience with the new Tunze protein skimmers and turbelle wavemaker pumps. The company states that these products are phytoplanton "friendly". The protein skimmer uses an osmotic process that limits damage to the plantonic animals. I was wondering if this works if it would be possible to keep enough "food" in the tank to feed corals. Like without needing a refugium. I was thinking it would be nice to add those "bunnies and amphipods" from Indo-Pacific farms. OH, their turbelle wavemakers also have a larger 3/4" outlet which they state limits the shearing force on the plankton. Thanks for comments. [list]

Doug, yes there is a web site:www.tunze.com. But even better is to talk to the U.S. sales rep at www.aquatekfish.com. Either e-mail or call. Ask to speak to Roger. He has lots of technical info on tunze products

I have ordered the 3130. What is the newer model like? I saw the 3130 in action at the tunze dealer's store in Austin, TX. It was quite impressive.null

I have been looking at them as well. The 3130 is new but looks and sounds like a good product. I have seen it's predecessor in a friends tank and I have to tell you, I was impressed. I know this guy for a while and I know his tank. He is a reasonable guy and bought the Tunze because he has tons of cash. The skimmate comming out of the thing was black and smelly. It was great (can you tell i'm a reef addict). I plan on ordering mine in mid April. Of course I will post frequent reports and pictures.

This is a copy of an email I recieved after inquiring about the product.
You can check www.tunze.com. I could send you a catalog if you give me
your address. The Tunze skimmer is about 9.5" long, 5" wide and 11" tall.
It utilizes a centrifuge chamber in which the water circulates numerous
times before exiting, the equivalent of 5' of contact. The water comes off
the pump at varying rates depending on the model. The 230/3 for example
circulates 317gph of water and 158gph of air. The exiting water is
recirculated by the pump and proteins are drawn into the skimmer by an
osmotic gradient, plankton are not sucked in as the pump is essentially on a
closed circuit loop. The units include a Turbelle pump and venturi.
Turbelle pumps are grounded, thermally protected and thanks to a unique
shaftless design, contain no metal or ceramic impeller components. The
230/3 uses 22w of electricity. The skimmer cup is full of thoughtful
features and has a large volume, it shuts down the foam column through back
pressure when full. I use the 230/2 the older version which had a
different impeller design on a 75 and a 120 reef. I am very happy with them
in regards to value and performance. They are a little more technical but
easy once you learn how to clean and dismantle the pump and dial in the
venturi just right they are almost completely without further adjustment for
3-6 months. The Tunze factory is small and the items are essentially built
to order, unfortunately while we try to keep good stock their are long
delays in getting resupplied. Parts however are readily on hand and can be
sent air mail from Germany if we are out of stock. I am surprised no one
could comment as Norbert Tunze invented the first commercially produced
skimmer and the first centrifugal aquarium water pump. In the early
eighties outside of airstone units, this was about the only skimmer to be
had. Tunze has been in business for 40 years producing advanced aquarium
equipment.

Those of you who have seen it or researched it, its probably old hat but I post it for general info for anyone else
