TS Leather

I looked in the archives, but didn’t see any info. to my problem. I have added a DIY Nielson/top off to my 75g. It’s been going for about 10 days. I have been monitoring Ph, Ca, Dkh and so forth...everything reads great. I have started to notice my Toad Stool leather not doing so well. He has been supper healthy for about a year, but now he has what appears to be a build up around the perimeter of it. It almost looks like yellow/whitish/purple dust. I put more current on him to see if it would blow off...but it doesn’t.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen similar reactions on their leather? I just didnt understand how he could go from good to bad in a matter of 24hrs........
Any input would be great

Everything else in the tank is doing well? Are you using any kind of phosphate remover in the tank? If I remember right, leathers don't tolerate them well.

Did the pH or alkalinty flucuate sharply lately? Any signs of predation? And this isn't the usual leather "pout" where they shed the waxy coating? Is the coral extending polyps? Is the effected area spongey or is it still firm?

Sorry for all the ?'s; just trying to cover all the bases.

Questions are good

A had a little swing of my Ph...due to the new Nilsen reactor. After the first day and half it has stabilized. The leather started just after that. All critters in tank doing great. I have a finger leather right across from it and he is great. The TS leather is extending polyps only where this build up is not. I dont think its the usual "pout". I will post a pic tonight to give all a better idea what I mean.......thanks

I had the same problem with a 14" TS and I started using Tech I from Kent and the problem went away..... My TS is now doing better than ever, it is always fully extended and has great coloration. Before this problem, I had never used an Iodine supplement.
