Trying to keep a clownfish alive

Well I have been trying to keep a clownfish alive in my tank for more than a month but it doesn't seem to be working.... I think my local stores stock to many and they come down with brooke or something else... I am going to order one from Live Aquaria and try that...

All other fish do fine... my clownfish just seem to get clownfish disease its very frustating..

Right now I have one yellow watchman goby a shrimp and a pistol shrimp... I should be fine adding one clownfish... right??

Nice to be back in the forums as i have been really busy..

Having a clownfish may overstock your tank. You should usually keep it around one fish for every five gallons of water. Sometime you can keep more.

Also, make sure you acclimate them properly.

Another note would be when you are purchasing your clownfish, take a look at the stomach. It is always good to get the one that looks a little fat. This is telling you that he has been eating. Your right some fish do get sick, but by finding the fat one, odds are he is feeling just fine. Make sure that they are swimming around good too. If they are easy to catch, something is wrong.

I have three percula clowns of my own and am looking for a maroon. I have had luck with mine so far and it has been over 6 months.

Good luck,
Brian

Have you been Qting your fish. Clownfish are pretty easy to keep if you properly Qt them on the front end and treat for any problems. Qt will allow you to closley monitor your fish and apply appropriate mediation as needed. Diseases such as brooklynella and amylo can kill quickly are difficult to diagnose and quick identification and treatment can only be accomplished in a QT.

If you suspect you have been having problems with brooklynella I suggest you purchase some formalin before your next clown purchase. A 50 minute formalin bath is a very effective treatment for brooklynella.

Good luck.

as for ordering from liveaquaria.com. I have have very good luck with all the livestock I order from there. The small percu clown I ordered from them two months ago is alive, well and fiesty. He give my blue reef devil a run for his money. I QT'd him for 2 weeks at first and I didn't think he was doing all that well. He hung out ontop the QT tank powerhead with his back out of the water at times. Then he just started exploring one day and never stopped. When I move him over to the big display he hid out for about a week. Then one day during feeding he came out and run the Devil back into the rock and proceded to eat all the food he could find. I am not very satisfied with LFS fish around here. Mail order is the way to go for me.
