trying a flower pot

Hi all. I picked up a few items today. Among them was a dark green flower pot which I couldn't pass up. I've read many threads on how difficult these are to keep, but a few of you seem to have success. I was hoping you might have some advice. I would attach a pic but I don't know how.

Thanks

Jeff

Jabel, some people have better luck with Goniopora than most, but alas way less than 10% make it past a year. The few how do can't seem to agree on a common thread re: success
As far as posting a pic if its on your puter save it to your hard drive and remember what you named it. Reply to the and hit browse at bottom of the reply section , then go to the location on your HD and double click, that should load it as an attachment

Hi Jeff! As Doug has stated, flowerpots are very hard to keep alive for a long period of time. Seems to be about 6-9 months for most. I have one as well and they are a beautiful coral and my large female maroon clown has adopted it as a host.
When feeding time comes, the maroon grabs a chunk of "mush" I make and runs it all over the flowerpot trying to feed it! I don't know if this is benefitting the coral or not. Here is a pic of my flower pot and maroon clown. Johnny

Thanks guys for the info. My flower pot has gotten huge after 1 day and my 2 clowns have already adopted it. Doug what kind of "mush" do you feed and do you think the clown bothers the flower pot too much?

Ive just recently seen a zooplankton food on the shelves at petsmart. I dont know if this is a good idea not knowing how they prosses it but you could try feeding it this and your other corals and see how they do, if theres any significant change.

Hi have had a couple of flower pots in the past and they all died after or before a year old. A friend of mine had one that did very well. He had a redox controller. The pulps would extend about 6-12 inches in all directions, he had flourescent VHO lighting. The only advice I can give is keep your ORP(Redox) high. Some way's of doing this is to keep your tank clean and use some mechanical filtration along with protien skimming. If the pulps extend way out then I believe it is happy, but there are different types so not sure if this is true for all of them.

Good Luck!

Hey Jabel! I use a "mush" made of raw shrimp, scallop, clams, oysters, nori, sometimes a little salmon, any fish as long as not to oily, etc.
They say with a clown hosting the flowerpot that they can keep a flowerpot from extending and may cost problems! Just going to have to wait and see what happens! Johnny
