Trumpet/Candy coral (cualastrea)... HELP!

It was recently my b-day, and a friend bought me a new Trumpet coral for my tank. I have a 55 gallon with 440w of VHO lighting, Actinic/Super Actinic.. anyway... the tank is quite stable with a Lobophytum, two Sarcos, several mushrooms including hairy and Ricordia species, a slimer Acropora, etc... I'm just wondering about the care for the Trumpet coral.

What should I feed it? It looks like it has a mouth.... do I have too much light? It's about a quarter of the way from the bottom of the tank, just above the sandbed. Any help would be appreciated! This is my first post in a LONG time!!

Cheers

Re: Trumpet/Candy coral (cualastrea)... HELP!

Hi! I've got several caulastrea's in similar lighting. They are up near the top of the tank as I've found they like theVHO lighting. I do not have MH. What I have found, is that some mushrooms have stung and killed neighbouring trumpets, so be careful of proximity. ray

trumpet candy coral

Hi, I think ur trumpet needs lots of light. I had one three months ago(dead now). Made the mistake of putting it in a shady cave.

I don't think Trumpets need huge amounts of light, about the midpoint in your tank would probably be fine, although with VHO, you could put them all the way up at the top if you wanted. When mine was only under VHO I had it about 3/4 of the way up.

They are little oinkers and will eat just about anytime you feed the tank. The more they eat, the more they grow I feed mine small bits of whatever the tank is getting. Silversides, blender mush, frozen cubes, bits of krill or prawns, brineshimp...they aren't very picky as long as it smells meaty.

Good luck with yours!
