I had a mandarin do the same thing, well sort of. he had no outward signs of damage, but was exaused after fighting for hrs. The best thing I think is to make sure all intakes are well guarded. I like the large foam guards, but the do get dirty quickly. Extra large guards with many holes work well. I couldn't find the correct guard for one, and had to use a plastic baby food jar (perfect fit) with many slits on one. keeps that down. I guess my best advice is to make sure he is fed well, maybe try some of that garlic based food to keep down infections (maybe), and try to keep the stress down, and he should heal quickly.
