Question

tropic marin bio calcium

Hello fellow reefers,

I am new here and already have a question for you...

Does anybody use Tropic Marin Bio Calcium? The reason I ask is I got some of this stuff to raise my calcium levels which are a little on the low side. I have been using Seachem reef calcium which, from what I've been reading on the message boards, is the wrong stuff for maintaining calcium levels. So I switched.

Ok, now the important stuff: before Tropic Marin Bio Calcium:

Ammonia and nitrite, 0
nitrate, .6
phosphate, undetectable
SG, 1.026
PH, 8.2
calcium, 300
Alk, 7 Dkh

Now 3 days after Tropic Marin Bio Calcium:

Ammonia and nitrite, 0
nitrate, .6
phosphate, undetectable
SG, 1.026
PH, 8.2
calcium, 300
Alk, 16 Dkh

I have been testing calcium and Alk every day since I started adding the bio calcium, the calcium levels stay the same, the alk went up to 11 dkh, now its 16 dkh. I have not added buffer for about 3 weeks.

How can I get the calcium levels up without skewing the alk levels? I don't use kalk and I don't have a calcium reactor.

I know that if the alk levels get real high the calcium will precipitate out of solution, causing "snow" or calcium carbonate deposits. I haven't added any calcium today, I want to see if the alk levels drop at all.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Ron

I too use Tropic Marin Calcium, but only dose once a week. My calcium levels are 450 or so.....and dkh has not risen that high yet!!! Might want to slow down on the dosing......
