Trip to the lfs

Well I I got my check from the IRS today so I figured I would take a trip to the lfs. I went to pick up some snails and crabs but of course I ended up with some thing else. I saw this nice small rock with green zoas on it so I bought it. I then noticed some thing else hanging on the rock and the lfs told me it was calupra(not sure how to spell it). He then stated that if it starts to grow like mad that he would like me to bring some back for him. My question is what is this stuff and is it good or bad?

If i'm not mistaken, it's the same algae that people put into their refuges for nutrient export. Not bad to have, but left out of check and it will grow and grow......

If it's really caulerpa, then nothing short of a nuclear warhead will get rid of it once it gets going...

It's what people use in refugiums for nutrient export, but it's usually harvested regularly before it goes sexual and releases all the nutrients back into the tank (and turns it a nice shade of green).

Just keep an eye on it and don't let it spread too far... the stuff can literally grow inches per day under the right conditions.

HTH.

a pic would be really helpfull here. there are many different kinds of algae, some are really annoying (razor calaurpa) and should be removed immediately. others can be kept in check with brunning.
