trash skimmer?
My skimmer has been running for weeks and the only septic sludge that comes out sticks to the inner walls and never bubbles over. it just thickens and thickens with little foam build up. I don't have corals and fish yet, but I have some crusteceans. Is this abnormal?

Are you able to adjust the skimmer so that it runs a little wetter? Also what type of skimmer do you have? Typically even when running a skimmer pretty dry, you should be able to get something in the collection cub, and just on the walls.

coralife super skimmer 65. I can adjust, yes, but still no significant foam build up.

the same thing happened on the POS skimmer I started with. I don't know, could it be because my tank is clean? I doubt it, though I have been doing 15% water changes every 6 to seven days.
I'm just so meticulous when it comes to the cleanliness of my tank. detritus can't hide from my siphon, and if some annoys me, i will remove it laugh at its petty attemts to raise my nitrates.
Mwa hahahahahah! Anyway i'm just rambling waiting for a response.

You dont have a bioload to speak of. I would hold out on trashing it till you have some poop to remove!!

I agree !! Also my skimmer works better the less I clean it? so i clean every other week. When I do a water change the skimmer doesnt work as hard either.... but if you do decide to trash the skimmer....toss it my way the Ft Myers area......I'll test it for you....lol

I agree, not enough bioload to test the skimmer's effectiveness.....just wait until you have some real fishie detritus in there!

dont get rid of it. its a great skimmer. if you are getting the dark green stuff that sticks to the walls, it def should be bubbling over into the cup. try setting the level of the bubbles / water to the middle of the cup and watch it for a few hours. I have the SS125 on my 65g and it works great.
you said your skimmer is running for weeks but how long has your tank been running?

I just bought the same skimmer for my second tank. I've been having the same trouble. It's all a matter of making an adjustment...waiting a few hours...make an adjustment...wait a few hours. Slowly, but surely mine is starting to dial in. I hope that you have the same luck.

running nearly 3 months now. I'm almost ready for fish and corals. My light should be arriving sometime this week, and thats when the fun begins! I suppose i'll hold out until I get a constant flow of dooky. thanks for all the replys.
OH OH. I have yet to post pics of my tanK. I really like my rock formation.
COMING SOON.
