transporting coral=help

My sister is flying to NY tomorrow with some coral that is in bags and in a cooler with a heating pad. She called the airline today (southwest) and they said their cargo area is not pressurized (they dont transport animals like most airlines) and she is concerned about the corals. Does anyone have any info on this.

Whiskey checked some bags with coral last summer. I'm sure he'll chime in, but as long as the bags are sealed well pressurization shouldnt matter. But, they'll really have to be air tight and pretty tough, as they'll expand when the pressure drops in the cargo area.

These were bought at Coral Connection in Florida and were packaged by them. Would they transport any differently if it were Fed Ex.

At fedex they'd probably have a pressurized cabin, plus the addition of sealing up the cooler (they're usually taped up around the entire seam of the styrofoam cooler to keep the air in) to give it a little more protection. That's something you could consider... if you could figure out a way to seal up the cooler somehow (maybe stick a bag around it?? I'm not sure).

Ok...my trip home to Florida with my corals went well. I feel bad because I got much nicer stuff in NY for myself than what I brought to deb from Florida. I love the way my tank looks right now. I am so excitted. Here are some pics!
Let to right. first-pagoda, (he's a little stressed) baby carnation (that was a bonus) & pipe organ. next-zoas & shrooms. next-pipe again. next-buttons.
