Traded in the Sailfin :/

Had to pull the trigger and lose one of the nicest Sailfin Tangs Ive seen. What a great fish it was but just too aggressive and really needed a 6 foot tank. Theres a few fish that are quite relieved about his absence, especially the CBB, that was the SFs favorite punching bag and every week he new bruises to prove it.

I was able to get a very healthy Powder Blue Tang and a small Kole Tang. That little Kole tang has already eaten more algae in 3 hours then my Lawnmower Blenny did in 3 days (he died BTW, I left the overflow gaurd off n found him on the floor ). TRuley voracious algae grazer. The Powder Blue is also tearing into algae. Snowflake Moray has also been 86'd.

Id like to get a replacement algae blenny or scoot-around doofyass type fish and the LAST FISH I get, to replace the size of the Sailfin is... A Lrg Moorish Idol. That will give me 3 butterflys, 3 tangs, 2 wrasses, 2 Sabae Clowns, 1 Mandarin and one stunning Moorish Idol. I know the Idols have been one of the hardest fish to keep but I think id enjoy the challenge.

Anyone currently have or has had a Moorish Idol? If it turns out they are that hard to keep healthy and happy even in healthy tanks, Ill get a Heniochus instead.

No I have not had one. i went to the beach last weekend and went to the aquarium. They have a hawaian themed tank, and one of the fish in it was a moorish idol. It was very healthy and was eating well. Maybe you could call them and ask how they got it to eat? good luck.

hehe are you on posting duty tonight Cutie? Here to make sure everyone gets a reply to their threads no matter how mundane IF my LFS wasnt so tight-lipped about the proper husbandry practices for this animals Id probably wouldnt post half as much. But alas, they never tell you NUTTIN, so here I am again. At least this time Im asking for info before the purchase.

BTW whats the name of the Aquarium?

They just dont want to tell you that there proper husbandry practices involves getting it into someone elses tank ASAP. Alot of LFS's dont really know what they have or how to take care of what they have.

if you really want one reefs2go sells them.

http://www.reefs2go.com/product/F-BU...rish_Idol.html

I would call them and ask them questions you have about the Moorish Idol before you buy it. They are 100% backing there fish health and so fare every fish I got stands by it. I never lost a fish through the post from them.

wow what a great clip, ty! Maybe thats why they dont do so well on average in the home aquarium, they are obviously schooling fish and open water swimmers. Theres some Tangs that school and do fine in aquariums but they tend to remain in a certain area, sticking to the familiar reef. Now I almost feel bad putting an Idol in such an unnatural situation. I may get a Heniochus instead, save the Moorish Idols for my 300 gallon where I can put a few and they can have 8-10 ft to swim. One day, I shall get a 300
