Unhappy

Totally Frustrated....

Well, as some of you may remember, I lost my Sailfin about 5 weeks ago. Now my Diamond Goby has died tonight and the Yellow Eyed Tang I bought to replace the Sailfin looks like he won't see the light of day.

The Goby has been looking great everyday, filtering the Aragonite like a fiend. The Tang has been doing pretty well but losing some color and not being quite as active.

Late last night I come in to do my flash light check and the water is completely clouded over and small white, 1mm size looking eggs floating around. Maybe a couple of dozen or so by the time I saw them. All else looked fine in the tank, skimmer working and return pump working fine. Nothing funny going on in the sump.

This morning, the tank is clear but the fish are noticeable lathargic, (sp?). I did not see the Goby for most of the day and when I did he was being hauled under a rock by the green brittle star. I know the brittle star was only doing what nature designed for him but it was sad to see my Goby in this state as I really like his very serious demeanor.

I took some water to the LFS and as I suspected all the water parms are just fine. My inverts, star and CBS are doing very well along with some mushrooms and Youngs coral.

MY LFS thinks I'm harboring some parasite which is getting to my fish and recommended I stay away from fish for a few month. I will do exactly that in the hopes that things will improve with time. Could my mysterious cloud have been the culprit????

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated......

I wish I could be of some help. Someday I will be able to help others as so many on this board have help me. I too lost a Sailfin Tang after one week of what looked like perfect health. Nothing wrong with my water either. I hope the suggestion to go fishless for a couple months work.

Sailfn;

Sorry about your loss It is hard to have critters die, especially if you can not find a reason for it. I too, hope that going fishless for a time will solve the problems. The crypto (ich) parasites can hang around for quite some time, 72 days is the ultimate fail safe, I'm not sure about other types of possible parasites.
