I wouldn't worry about the clown. The torch, on the other hand could get easily damaged when the clown snuggles up against that sharp skeleton. Corals are not built for hosting. That said, I've read numerous accounts of clowns hosting in just about anything.

Ya know, I've wondered about that. I have a torch, a frogspawn and a hammer and maybe it was my imagination but everytime my tomato clown tried to "snuggle up" to them, he appeared to get stung, kinda gave a jump. He finally ended up in a long-tentacled sarcophyton. I introduced a smaller tomato and he took up residence in a Sinularia. When I removed it, he ended up laying in a Mycedium (a big plate coral) which doesn't look so comfortable (so exposed) but he's ignored the big xenia patch and all the others. He has started cavorting in the sarco with the other one, but they haven't started sleeping together yet (gee, this is better than late-night tv!)

I wish my clowns hosted on anything. i have a grogspawn and a torch and they don't even go near it. For a while they were using my toadstool as a slip and slide and kept pissing it off but they gave up on that.

One of our preminus clowns swam into our torch, and left quick smart. He then sat there eye balling it for a while, and wont go near it now.
That said, ive had my hands in it a couple times, and didnt feel anything.
The skeleton is **** sharp though, as mentioned....
I think it'll be up to your clowns as to whether they host or not. Are your clowns already hosting? if not there is little chance they will start of their own accord.

The coral is more likely to be irritated than the fish. However I've seen clowns take up residence in a variety of corals and the corals get used to it, as do the fish. Because the clowns are not conditioned to a particular coral, sometimes they need to get themselves stung a bit to "acclimate" to that particular coral's sting. Once they build up a resistance to it, they make themselves at home.
My ocellaris clowns have taken up residence in some zoanthids. The zoos aren't particularly thrilled about it but they manage.

I have a pair of clowns who live in my torch but they constantly have injuries from it. They never learn and I've tried to move the torch round the tank to get them to host with something else but no joy. Krusty has lost an eye and most of his dorsal fin, Side-Show-Bob is down a fin or two. I wouldn't have put the torch in had I known, but the clowns love the torch and the somewhat less than symbiotic relationship they have with it

Are you considering a torch coral for the same tank you just treated with Cupramine?
