Question

Top-off/Dosing systems (anyome tried a Reef Filler?)

Hi. I'm looking for something to maintain SG and add kalk in my 180. I saw an ad for the "Reef Filler", does anyone have any experience with this? I like the idea of a remote resevoir since I've got the perfect place to put it. It looks like the RF has a constant output that you have to adjust to match the evaporation rate in your tank. This seems like a lot more hassle than a float valve would be. Any thoughts, suggestions, altenatives or experience appreciated. Thanks.

No experience with the Reef Filler, other than the old fashioned one I use... pour half the evap loss in the sump in the morning, and half again in the evening when I get home! I haven't rigged up a top off system yet for the 125.

Moving your post to the top! ^

I have no experience with the "Reef Filler" but I've been using a LiterMeter for a few years to dose kalk. Works great, easy to calibrate and it's quiet. Check it out at http://www.spectrapure.com/prec_p0.htm

The link is to Spectrapure's site, but you can find the LiterMeter at many online retailers for a much better price.

I have used a Reef Filler and it worked fine. It does, however, make a very annoying wining sound that is surprisingly loud. So if you want something quiet, the Reef Filler isn't it.

I have recently purchased a Nurce system from Aqualan and love it. Nothing electrical and it works like a charm to keep the sump level completely stable. The model I have can also dose Kalk, tho' I haven't tried that yet.

Hi Studly, here is a link to my DIY water topoff. It works on the same principal as the nurse top off. It has been running for about a month and is working great. If your intrested in building one let me know http://www.thereeftank.com/cgi-bin/u...c&f=5&t=000043

I have been using a Reef-Filler for about 2 years...trouble free. Here's a link to my review of that pump http://cereal.mv.com/reef and click on the ARTICLES link, you'll find it there.

It is noisy, but I keep mine in a laundry room about 50' from my tank. The Reef-Filler is a necessity if you need to pump up or long distances as it will pump I believe at up to 200feet.

Also, if you are going to pump kalkwasser for a distance, I think the 3/8" tubing the Reef-Filler uses will work better than the airline tubing that the Litermeter uses.

I've been using UltraLife for several months now and I like it. Maintains the level in my sump to within 1/8".
