Too Much of a Good Thing?

Well, my 125 has been up and running for a couple months now, and during that time we have been trying unsuccessfully to get the Skimmer dialed in... After adjustment it would produce skimate for a little bit, then stop. Today, well my wife was scrapping algae off the glass we heard a noise. It was the skimmer dumping skimate into the bucket... Apparently our skimmer is too much for our system and unless additional waste is added like the algae off the glass, it will not skim

..... I can't get algae to grow on the rocks fast enough to make up for the Foxface eating it....
I run an Aqua-C EV-240 with a mag 18 on a 125 Gallon aggressive tank w/ a 20 gallon sump...

what kinda skimmer is it? i doubt it is too much for the system, some are very finicky, my coralife super skimmer does that, you adjust it a little, it pulls a bit and stops, so you adjust some more, untill eventually it takes off and bam! over flow. i think it skims harder at night or during the day or something when you dont check it. and then when you dial it in during its down time, when it picks up again is when it goes crazy.

duh, i see what kind it is, just dial it in so its skimming dry, and check it every day or two, as long as the cup is filling. it should be ok for it to stop every now and then.

I wonder if a Mag18 is too much for the EV-240. The website recommends a few different pumps, including the Mag12.

I use a SEN 900 on my EV-240.
