To QT or not to QT??

Well, I didn't use a QT first time around and I got wiped out. My first replacements, a pair of perculas, were treated with hypo-salinty in a QT for over 6 weeks. Then the heat wave of '06 hit while we were on vacation. The tank temp went well over 90 and all corals bleached, feather dusters died, inverts died and the female percula and their sebae anemone host died too. A percula replacement and a bellus angel will be done with hypo treatment in early October. Hopefully the clowns get along, the show is great.

My question is, do most QT corals, inverts and anemones??? I'd really like to add some frags, but want to try to maintain the "ich free" environment. It's alot of work and time, and doesn't make sense to take a shortcut, agreed? Since my "pod" population was devastated by the rise in temp, I'd like to re-seed, but should they be QT'd also?

Where does it end? Let me know what you think.

Attached a pic of the girl that didn't make it.

Welcome to TRT!
I wouldn't worry about quarantine for inverts, anemones etc.. Some people quarantine their sps corals in order to treat for redbugs. A dip in ro/di and Lugol's is a good idea for Zoanthids.

Thx platypus,

You don't think the ich spores and others could, or would be transferred in the fluid attached to the new inhabitants?? You think maybe I'm paranoid?? Could everything be rinsed in RO/DI water or maybe new unused salt water, or even tank water before transfer? Would this help or just stress too much?

Good questions. Ich could come in on any invert or coral, afaik. And I am not sure that even a quick dip would eradicate it all.

I don't think there is a perfect solution here.

Also, welcome aboard!!! w0000000000000000000000t!!!

well if you are going to be really anal, then qt EVERYTHING four weeks. if it came from the wild there is always a possibility of ich being attatched to any rough surface in its reproductive phase, only to have it 'hatch out' into your tank.
