To Plenum or not To Plenum???

Hi all, its been a long time. The whole family has been talking about getting the tank back up now that we live in a good place. I've been searching for sand beds and I dont see anybody talking about plenums anymore, is that a thing of the past? Is just sand better for the anarobic bacteria? Thanks for your help.

I wasn't really in the mix when plenums were popular but the general sentiment now goes one of two ways: Deep sand bed (5+") or Bare Bottom. There's a huge amount of debate therein.

I ran them for years , I don't know what the plenum had any benifits over the DSB, or visa/versa, I have DSB now and working on a BB

Search the topic in the think tank, check out the limitations of nutrients sinks and the overall failure to achieve utopin complete waste proccessing (plenum or DSB) versus limiting input and major waste removal
