to much substrate

I just put substrate in my 75g . I have 3" of 1/8 arogonite 80lbs and 1" of cichlid sand a 50lb bag. wow! it looks like to much. seems like i lost 1/4 of my tank space. should i take some out ? my local LFS sugested the cichlid sand is it ok? I like the color browns and soft tans!
thanks
