To Mount a light or not Mount my light

I recently mounted my 36 in nova extreme light today and noticed much more light outside of my tank then when I had it laying on the lips of the tank. I also noticed one of my acans not fully extended like it usually is. Did me mounted the light have something to do with this. The light is T5 39x4.

Was it on top of the lip or does it have legs?

I would keep it on the legs to get as much oxygen exchange as possible. I would give your acan a couple days to see what happens, if you think its the light you can move him up a bit in the tank to make up for the distance.

The extra height is nice, keeps the tank from getting to hot and get nice spread of light. You can always build a canopy to keep the stray light from being annoying.
