To Drill or Not to Drill!

Hi Everyone!

I am getting ready to re-setup a 74 gal. reef tank.

Under the old setup I used a siphon tube to run water from the pre-filter box to the skimmer box. Now I want to drill the tank and eliminate the siphon tube. I have purchased everything I need to drill the glass with.

Can I drill into the side of the tank or do I need to drill the bottom? I was told by one person that drilling into the side puts abnormal pressure on the side wall of the tank and you should only drill the bottom. Any comments?

The tank I have has a sticker on the bottom saying do not drill the bottom becaused it is made of tempered glass. Does that make a difference if you want to drill the bottom? Any comments?

yes it makes a diference!!! do not drill the tempered glass!!!
as for the side i dont know but i am sure someone here will be able to advise better on that........

Ive seen plent of tanks drilled in the sides, usualy with multaple holes. Oh, and Dont drill tempered glass!!
