To build a LR PVC rack, or not?

Initially when I setup my 30 gallon tank I just stacked up the live rock in a nice little mountain and let nature take its course. Now that I am adding corals I'm noticing that I had to change my rock setup and it's not all that stable. I've heard of people using some sort of rack system in their tanks to make more aesthetically pleasing formations, anyone have any input on this topic? What's the best material to use? Are there any drawbacks/benefits to doing this? Is there such a thing as an ideal formation for the live rock? Forgive my ignorance, this is all new to me still.

Look in the do-it-yourself section. I beleive there is a project on there that uses acrylic to make one. It looks better than pvc, though the same principles can be used for whatever material you wish to use. If you can't find it I'm sure someone will have a thread to it and post it for you.

you can also just epoxy the rock together. this works great with base rock. you can stack them just the way you like. pour some FSB onto the joints and you are good to go. this is how i created my aquascaping.

there is a difference between using rock lifts to get the rock off the sand (which is a really good idea) lifting the rock, you can direct flow under it, removing any pockets of detrius that gathers there. search flyguys thread about acrylic rock lifts, they are the best looking ones ive seen so far.

i think what your talking about is making something to keep your rocks more stable. if thats the case, you can epoxy them together like goeff said, or you can get a small mason drill bit, drill holes in the rock and use pegs to steady them, or just play with it long enough, rocks will usually lock together if you have some good stacking skills, just gotta keep playin with it till its stable.

Thanks for the help everyone, I think between Flyguy's step by step acrylic post and the info here I have a good base to start with.
