Tips Of Yellow Finger Leather Are Dieing! (pic)

Anybody know why? This coral is about two years old (Ive had it that long anyways). I thought that I had heard somewhere (Alice maybe?????) that this is a common problem w/ this leather. What shall I do??????

Thanx
Dennis

Maybe you can frag it out and that way save some of it! Johnny

Hmmm, Dennis, I don't remember saying that but my memory's shot so who knows, lol.

Hard to tell from the pics but have the ends just gotten mushy and fallen apart or have they been damaged by an animal in the tank? What's close to it? I'd say it looks like an act of chemical warfare as my best bet.

Can you get that coral out of the tank? Trim off the dead ends up to the healthy tissue and then give it an iodine/sw dip; you may need to do a series of dips. If some other coral is waging war on it though, you'll need to move it so that it doesn't keep happening.

Good luck with it!

Alice: I dont really know if you said that or someone else. It just sticks in my mind.

Aaron: Ya...that is the one next to the hydnophora...BUT....The discolored tips are on the other side. The ones by the hydnophora are just fine.

Do you think a purple photosynthetic gorgonian (the one from your tank Alice) would cause it? It does rub up against that. But thats about it. Thanks for all the responses guys!

Thanks for the link Aaron!!

Dennis

P.S: The tips dont get mushy. They just discolor and grow a little algae. ???????????/

Hmmmm...Dennis; I'm not sure on the gorgonian. You might want post about the toxicity of gorgonians, Galleon, Landescaper and Horge are sure to know more about it than I do.

Have you cut away the dead ends yet?

Oh! Since the big capnella died and is out of the nano, those orange polyps look completely normal. Chemical warfare, indeed, lol. I couldn't see the forest for the tree

Alice,

I am soooooooo glad to hear that the polyps are coming around. I hope the grow and proliferate as well for you as they did for me!!!! Very strange indeed about the chemical warfare! I will post about the gorgonians.

Thanks as usual!
