Question

Tips 4 Switching CC to Live Sand

Ok, so I'm getting Live sand in my 10 gallon mini reef which was
started in March. I'm planning on putting in 20lbs as it is only 9
inches high.

Anyway, can I just siphon out the water and put my livestock in
buckets, with live rock. Then scoop out the CC. And replace with
the Live Sand? Then just dump water and livestock back in right
after?

I've got anemones, crabs and fish in there.

Im going to make the change Tuesday. So any tips until then
will help.

Thnx

Pretty much, tho have some extra SW made up, as you will get a yucky mess in the bottom when scooping out the CC, good luck

If there are bristleworms, chitons, mini-stars ect. in your CC you might want to pick them out with tweezers or wearing gloves; the more the merrier in your new sandbed

Blue Water - we did a 50 gallon changeover a few weeks ago and did pretty well what you did. We put the fish in the QT tank with old water, used part of the old water in the new tank to reduce shock and added new saltwater. You should be fine.

Phil,
You might keep your heater and an airstone handy to keep circulation and heat in the container for your livestock; sometimes these little jobs take longer than anticipated.
I changed my 55 to DSB way back when it was in infancy and did pretty much as has been suggested without a hitch.
Good luck with the changeover!
