Yeah I think CPR makes the one with a pump. They aren't the best way to go. A well set up u-tube overflow will work with no issues. I never had an issues once the thing was adjusted properly. Kinda pissed me off that I had to go to cutting on a $125 overflow box in order for it to work properly.

thats what i thought. did you have to use more then one overflow before you got it right?

I just bought the eshopps a few weeks ago and had the same issue.

What I did was push in a 1 inch PVC pipe into the U-tube that was in the inner box so that the pipe was now about 1/2 inch off the bottom of the box.

The air bubbles can't make it that far down!

Never had an issue since I did this

Nice! good idea; we'll give it a shot asap. Glad we don't have to replace the tube! thanks

I just thought about it. Maybe I used a 3/4 inch PVC pipe instead of 1 inch.

But which ever, it just slips right into the U-tube and when you push it far enough up it sticks without the use of any adhesive.

if you look at the picture of biowheel's overflow that is the proper set up. the water flowing into the box is only about a one inch difference from the water line in the tank to the water line in the inner overflow box. any more then that will cause a waterfall effect and splash when entering the box that will cause air bubbles. i cant tell from the picture you posted were the water line is in your box but it should be about one inch. the flow should be smooth. if you dont want to modify your box then try to lower the box farther in to the water. if this greatly effects the water level in your tank then your not using the proper sized return pump.

not sure if I'm getting it:
low level in the (black box)overflow = too fast/strong pump?

EDIT: (btw, wasn't sure where to see biowheel's overflow pic?
)

if you have a low level in the black box the one sitting in the tank that would be an indication that it is not adjusted proprely or you have an undersized return pump. from the picture i see it looks to be adjusted to high out of the tank.
what is the distance from the top of the black box to the water line in the black box?
