Refugium=extra work and cleaning. Simple is best IMO. Look at my build (link in my sig)and see the sump I have for my 150. Its the same design I have used before simple and highly effective. Easy to make and cheap!

I did not plan on one. I think in a previous thread I had motorslave gave me some options and the simple method is what I am looking for.

no but you can se the lay out of the sump. Basically there is three baffles siliconed in. The water from the tank drops in on one end and the return is on the other end. The return section is the smaller of the two sections. The return section also where the ATO would be set up as this is the only section that water level will drop. The baffles should go in an over/under/over order and be placed far enough apart to prevent the water from being squeezed through them. I have mine 2" apart and the under baffle is 2" off of the bottom. This allows the water to have a slow velocity so the baffles can be effective at preventing baubles from making it to the return.

Yes, you can get acrylic cut at lowes. I used glass for my baffles (again, cut at lowes) and has worked great

Glass in my opinion, as silicone actually bonds well to it (unlike acrylic)

Now there is a downside to glass... and i'm sure you know what that is. You have to be carefull around it. I have to replace one of the baffles in my sump as I cracked it when installing my skimmer...luckily it is only one of the bubble trap panels.

I agree with MS on this. I went with a fuge, and now wish I hadn't. I'd have more room for the skimmer section (giving me a larger selection of skimmers to pick from), and a LOT less work.

Anybody got a good picture of a empty 20 gallon sump? I don;t really understand the placement of the baffles.
