Question

Time for a Re-do

My US Aquarium skimmer has about had it. I either get no foam for a week, or it overflows (usaully at night). I have cleaned the pump, the skimmer, whole bit, no better. It has actually done this off and on since I got it.
Should I look at a HOB or in-sump? The in sumps would be ok, but the sump also acts as a refugium/macro garden, so I think I will just chop up the bugs, and probably end-up getting the pump jammed with calerpa.
Some of the nicer HOB I am looking at require a mag 5 pump! I don't really want a mag5 hanging in the display tank.
One skimmer that I was looking at is the Titan by D&D Enterprises. It also takes a mag 5, but it looks like I can put that on the floor, and have the skimmer hang on the sump, and dispel into the sump.
I am planning on putting another mag 5 or 7 into the sump, and running that up to 2 outlets in the display (eliminating the rios), so I don't think I will have a problem with too much water going into the sump at once.

Thanks for your help!

Hey Scott,

HOT or in-sump is entirely up to you. It's always nice to have one less piece of equipment out of the display, but then that means more bugs chewed up in the sump/refugium. If you do go for an in-sump model, what about dividing up the sump into two more defined sections, that way at least the pump won't be jammed with caulerpa. The skimmer you are looking at, is there a site with more info on it? Have you thought about an AquaC EV-90? Or, if you go for an HOT, what about a Remora? The gorg's you have seem to be doing great without very efficient skimming right now, maybe you could even try skimmer-less! HTH
