Tiger Tail Question!

Hi All! I just got done looking in my tank with the flashlight and had not seen the tiger tail cucumber for awhile and almost dropped the flashlight on the floor when I noticed the cucumber on my large piece of LR way at the top underneath my golden gorgonian!
Is this normal behavior for these critters? It looks really healthy and started to move at a faster pace with the flashlight on it! I assumed it was a creature for the substrate not for mountain climbing! LOL Johnny

Hey Johnny,

That is a little unusual, as the tiger tail cukes usually don't have really good "tube feet" for enhinoderms to do the type of climbing that would get them high up in rocky substrate, however, it is possible. As for usual behavior, mine have never left the substrate, although I understand that they occasionally like to go out for some "Sand"wiches and Echinoderm beer on Saturday nights...

BTW Dick: Nice photo of the tiger tail, may I use it to make a slide for a class???

Hi Johnny,

To be honest, Im not sure mine are tiger tails, but I know they are an Atlantic variety. One stays in the sand, sometimes will go up on rocks but rarely. The other has stayed on the glass near the overflow (had to rescue it twice from the overflow). This one is a black color, and the sand one is brownish. I have read some posts in Dr Rons place about this behavior and he pretty much said it was normal. They go where the good food is and apparently it finds something it likes up near the overflow while the other has a taste for whats in the sand.
